Author of Book on American Immigration Prisons to Speak at UB Feb. 9

Journalist Mark Dow, author of American Gulag: Inside U.S. Immigration Prisons, will speak on the growing issue of immigration detention in a special event on Thursday, Feb. 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Langsdale Library Auditorium, 1420 Maryland Ave. in Baltimore. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the University of Baltimore School of Law’s Immigrant Rights Project.
UB Public Interest Law Students to Hold Auction Feb. 10

Susan Goering, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland, will receive the Robert M. Bell Award for Leadership in Public Service during a special ceremony on Friday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. The event, part of the annual silent and live auction to benefit UB Students for Public Interest Law, will take place at the Belvedere, 1 E. Chase St. in Baltimore. The ceremony and auction are presented by the School of Law.
Law Students Make National Finals for ABA Negotiation Competition

Two students from the University of Baltimore School of Law have been invited to participate in the national finals of the American Bar Association’s Law Student Division Negotiation Competition. They will travel to the ABA’s midyear meeting in Chicago on Feb. 11-12 to compete with students from law schools across the country in a simulation in which they act as lawyers to negotiate a series of legal problems.
Criminal Justice Professor Receives Fulbright

Cindy J. Smith, associate professor in the Division of Criminology, Criminal Justice and Social Policy at the University of Baltimore and director of the graduate program in criminal justice, has received a Fulbright scholar grant for her continuing research in human trafficking.
Law School Magazine Wins CASE Award
