UBalt Law prepares students to enter the legal community.
UBalt Law's placement rates are ranked as some of the top in the nation. Last year's employment rate at graduation was ranked 29th by U.S. News and World Report.
Outside the classroom, the Law Career Development Office offers a full range of innovative career services to students and alumni. With core services including:
- career advising
- job search assistance
- providing professional development education, programs and resources
- coordinating and facilitating pro bono experiences
- connecting employers with students and alumni through externship programs, career fairs and hiring programs.
Career Development's five staff members work hard to cultivate strong relationships with many employers throughout Maryland and the Washington, D.C. area, providing exceptional opportunities for students while maintaining an extensive job database. It is easy to see why our students find so much success after graduation.
2018 Employment Rate: 91.6%
10 months after graduation, 91.6% of the 2018 graduating class with known employment status was employed. Of those employed, 84.2% were in legal positions (70.4% are in positions that require bar admission and 13.8% are in positions that are JD advantage*).
2017 Employment Rate: 90.3%
10 months after graduation, 90.3% of the 2017 graduating class with known employment status was employed. Of those employed, 89.7% were in legal positions (74.4% are in positions that require bar admission and 15.3% are in positions that are JD advantage*).
2016 Employment Rate: 92.6%
10 months after graduation, 92.6% of the 2016 graduating class with known employment status was employed. Of those employed, 90% were in legal positions (58% are in positions that require bar admission and 32% are in positions that are JD advantage*).

*The National Association for Law Placement (www.nalp.org) defines the JD Advantage category as the following: Jobs in this category are those for which the employer sought an individual with a JD, and perhaps even required a JD, or for which the JD provided a demonstrable advantage in obtaining or performing the job, but are jobs that do not require bar passage, an active law license, or involve practicing law. Examples of positions for which a JD is an advantage include a job as a corporate contracts administrator, alternative dispute resolution specialist, government regulatory analyst, FBI agent, and accountant.
